Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Solution Design Engineer to lead the end-to-end design and proposal phase for complex intralogistics and automation projects. In this role, you will act as the bridge between technical engineering and commercial success. You will utilise AutoCAD to design innovative warehouse layouts and work closely with the bid pursuit team to craft winning proposals.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in material handling equipment (MHE), racking systems, and robotics, combined with the financial acumen to manage solution costing and risks.
Responsibilities & Authorities
Technical Solution Design & Engineering
- End-to-End Design Authority: Lead the technical design for automation proposals ranging from medium to high complexity.
- AutoCAD Layouts: Utilise AutoCAD to create detailed, innovative 2D/3D layouts for warehouse optimisation, incorporating Storage Racking, Conveyor Systems, and Robotics.
- Feasibility Analysis: Conduct technical assessments and solutioning workshops to determine the feasibility, scope, and best-fit technology for client requirements.
- Innovation: Propose creative layout solutions that directly address client's business drivers using the latest supply chain technologies.
Bid Management & Commercial Strategy
- Proposal Leadership: Lead the technical volume of the bid, ensuring all design components are accurate, viable, and compelling.
- Costing & Risk: Define the design approach to ensure a competitive yet profitable cost structure.
- Clearly identify and articulate technical and commercial risks to internal stakeholders.
- Value Proposition: Collaborate with the deal pursuit team to develop a strong business case, translating technical features into tangible business benefits for the client.
- Due Diligence: Lead the due diligence phase during bid pursuit to validate assumptions and revise service designs as necessary prior to contract finalization.
Collaboration & Orchestration
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Orchestrate the deal flow by working closely with Sales, Bid Management, Service Delivery, and external partners.
- Vendor Management: Manage input from third-party specialists and equipment partners to integrate their technologies into the master solution design.
- Client Presentation: Articulate the entire solution to clients on both a technical and business level, serving as the subject matter expert during pitch meetings.
Qualifications

- Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD is mandatory. Experience with other simulation or 3D modeling tools is a plus.
- Domain Knowledge: Deep understanding of Material Handling Equipment (MHE), including:
- Storage Racking & Shelving Systems (AS/RS, Shuttle systems).
- Conveyor & Sortation Systems.
- Warehouse Robotics (AGVs/AMRs).
- Commercial Acumen: Proven experience in cost estimation, bill of materials (BOM) creation, and reading/responding to RFPs/tenders.
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze complex data sets (SKU velocity, order profiles) to create data-driven design decisions.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Experience
Minimum 5-6 years of professional experience.
